If you haven't stumbled upon Elizabeth Tracey's, (Dir. of Electronic Media for Johns Hopkins Medicine) PodBlog then I suggest you do so ASAP. I met with Elizabeth this week and listened with very open ears about how she started podcasting at Hopkins. She self-started the whole process 7 years ago with Rick Lange (Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins, and Vice Chairman of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center), and their audience has grown enormously.

Elizabeth and Rick are quite the pair in terms of personality and medical knowledge quotients. She recognized the void that could be filled with the right audio presentation, and while she certainly can hold her own with a variety of topics, Rick adds his own folksy flair and wide breath of experience.  Elizabeth also finds time to be Director of the Johns Hopkins HealthNewsfeed radio service, a daily one-minute objective medical news program broadcast throughout the United States and internationally via the Voice of America.

Here's the latest from Elizabeth's PodBlog.

The extent of people wanting to read so they can 'see' the rest of the world is amazing. I posted this on Facebook, but I thought it was also blog-worthy.

Watch the full episode. See more POV.

Our very own Tillie from the Harrison Library at Bayview weighs in on librarianship at present and looking into the future. Tillie sometimes calls into the Circulation desk at Welch to pursue a book, or inquire about book delivery.

Is that snickering I hear in the audience? No it's not snickering, I think the sound I'm hearing is just blatant laughter!

“We are trying to weed out the students who look great on paper but haven’t developed the people or communication skills we think are important,” said Dr. Stephen Workman, associate dean for admissions and administration at Virginia Tech Carilion.

Let's hope this "trend" catches on.....

I'd be happy with just recycling food for the hungry, but they have 11 more goals. Cliche alert: "hope for the future". Stop laughing, I gave fair warning.

Here's the agenda in a nutshell from the link below:

"we are planning a full day and evening of activities. We want to invite you and encourage you to plan to come celebrate with fellow medical illustrators, colleagues, friends and Hopkins alumns in a fun and informative reunion. Here at Hopkins we are on the dawn of exciting scientific, medical, and communication technologies but still teaching the "art" of our profession. Our one-day celebration will not only take a look at the historical past but address the advances along the way and try to project the future of the profession and the skills all of the graduate programs we will be teaching in the next 100 years."
