Update on Lilienfeld Library Services

Jane Schlegel and Claire Twose

We wanted to update everyone on the changes that are occurring on the ninth floor of Hampton House.  The physical presence of the Lilienfeld Library as we have known it is being closed as of December 20th , 2010 and the space will be renovated.  This move will both allow the library to concentrate staff time, money and resources where they are most used, and will allow the School of Public Health to create some much needed additional classroom, research space and various types of study space for students.

Library services and resources used most by our faculty staff and students will continue uninterrupted:

·    Access to all electronic resources and services including high quality, relevant electronic journals, books and databases and electronic reserves remain available through WelchWeb and our specialized portals.

·    The core collection of books, almost 2000, that have been used or purchased within the last three years, are already available at Welch on the 5th floor of the stacks.

·    Public computers will continue to be available in the central area of the ninth floor.

·    Print reserve materials will continue to be available on the ninth floor or at Welch library, depending on the course.

·    Donna Hesson will continue to be the librarian assigned to the three departments in Hampton House and the MPH program.  She will have office hours Tuesday through Thursday 10 am - 2 pm and will be available by phone, email and by appointment at other times.

SPH will try to minimize the disruptions with their renovations and there will be future updates.  We hope that you agree with us, that these are positive changes which keep us ahead of the curve in library services.
